In this video, the focus is on the application of behavioral principles to the teaching of mathematical skills. The video was written, directed and narrated by Ellen P. Reese at Mount Holyoke College in 1978. Part 1, Teaching Number Concepts to Retarded Children, focuses on specifying what behavior would demonstrate acquisition of the concept of number and teaching those behaviors to a child with developmental disabilities. A stimulus shaping program designed to teach counting and the concept of number is demonstrated. In Part 2, Arithmetic, an instructional program for teaching arithmetic concepts such as more/fewer, the ordinal scale, equality is demonstrated with another child with developmental disabilities.
