Project Follow Through: A Case Study of Contingencies Influencing Instructional Practices of the Educational Establishment
Project Follow Through, originally conceived in 1967 as a social action program to extend Head Start into the primary grades, became an educational experiment aimed at finding effective methods for educating disadvantaged children. Follow Through, in effect, created a national learning laboratory, providing a unique opportunity to study the effectiveness of a variety of educational methods. The results indicated that the Direct Instruction model and, to a lesser degree, the Behavior Analysis model provided viable solutions to the problem of teaching disadvantaged children. Yet the results of the Follow Through evaluation have been virtually ignored by the educational establishment. This paper presents a case history of Project Follow Through and examines the factors that have led the educational establishment to ignore teaching methods that are effective in raising the academic achievement of disadvantaged children.

The Blue Books: Goldiamond & Thompson's Functional Analysis of Behavior
It was said by those who took the courses, that Israel Goldiamond's Unviersity of Chicago two-quarter sequence in Behavior Analysis & Programs was equivalent to a Ph.D. program elsewhere. while perhaps somewhat of an exaggeration, the effect of the courses was indeed profound. Those who worked with Dr. Goldiamond knew that much of the course content came from a text developed at the Institute for Behavioral Research under contract with the U.S. Surgeon General. This text is CD Format.
Continuously Programmed Environments and the Experimental Analysis of Human Behavior
Continuously programmed environments represent an approach to the study of complete repertoires of human behavior by combining the conceptual framework of experimental analysis with the naturalistic goals of ethological observation. There are many areas of application of behavior analysis that could benefit greatly from research in a programmed environment. For example, the conditions of an employment situation can be simulated in a programmed environment for research on management and performance maintenance (NASA has been interested in simulating working conditions under extended confinement and isolation). Also, drug self-administration and feeding behavior have been studied over extended periods in a programmed environment. No reader interested in complex human behavior is likely to come away from reading this monograph without a sense of excitement about the avenues of experimental exploration made possible by continuously programmed environments. Brady's work evokes innovative responses from others, as is evident in the breadth of the topics considered by commentators Morris, Logue, and Branch.
Handbook of the Standard Celeration Chart
A comprehensive revision of the 1972 Handbook of the Standard Behavior Chart by Pennypacker, Koenig & Lindsley. This edition contains new material and is written for a somewhat more advanced audience. It has a larger reference section, a more extensive glossary, and a list of web resources.
The Deluxe edition features 2-color charts (light blue-green and black) while the Standard edition uses the black and white format of the earlier book.
The Revealed Operant: A Way to Study the Characteristics of Individual Occurrences of Operant Responses and the Mechanisms of Reinforcement (3rd edition)
An operant is a revealed operant (rO) if it is specified as a sequence of more than two recorded sub-operants. The first and last sub-operants must be made on different manipulanda. An rO differs from traditional operants (those that are recorded as single instantaneous events) in that more than one of its sub-operants is recorded. This feature makes the rO a practical model for studying the structure of individual occurrences of operants. For each occurrence, several types of behavioral measures, including duration, sub-operant patterns, and the operant's internal structure, can be examined. This monograph describes a practical method for implementing rOs and discusses how the rO model can be used to address various issues in the field of behavior research. Among these are reinforcement, behavior shaping, variability, acquisition, extinction, automatization, punishment, choice behavior, equivalence, transition behavior, behavioral cyclicity, and drug effects.
Behavior Analysis Forms for Clinical Intervention, Volume 1 & 2
VOLUME 1: The purpose of behavioral assessment for clinical treatment is to determine target behaviors, discover the antecedents and consequences controlling those behaviors, and monitor the effects of manipulating the controlling elements. One of the most significant sources of information for behavioral assessment can be self-observation and self-recording by the client. Self-report forms have many benefits: they save time; completion of the forms may be done outside the therapeutic session; comparisons of responses to the questionnaires or forms can be made at various stages of treatment; a questionnaire can act as a discriminative stimulus for the client in observing his or her own behaviors. Most of the forms in these volumes are self-report forms; in addition, there are recording forms and therapy guidelines for both therapist and client. Volume 1 includes four types of forms: General Forms (identification of maladaptive behaviors), Process Forms (target behaviors, motivation, treatment plan), Techniques Forms (therapeutic strategies), and Specific Forms (provide specific information on target behaviors). Organic Dysfunction Survey Schedules
The field of behavioral medicine emphasizes a combined medical and behavioral approach to all organic dysfunctions. This approach assumes that both psychological and organic behaviors obey the same laws. One important aid to a behavioral analysis that can be helpful in assessing organic dysfunctions is the use of behavioral inventories. It is best to have specific inventories for a variety of organic dysfunctions. This manual includes specific survey schedules for 22 different organic dysfunctions. Whenever an organic dysfunction is targeted for behavior change, the specific survey schedule should be administered in addition to the usual behavioral inventory battery.
